IFLA Russian Language Centre at the RSL
The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) is the leading international body representing the interests of library and information services and their users. It is the global voice of the library and information profession. IFLA currently has seven official languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Russian and Spanish. The business language of IFLA is English. IFLA now has more than 1400 members in over 140 countries of the world.
IFLA aims to promote high standards of provision and delivery of library and information services, encourage widespread understanding of the value of good library & information services and represent the interests of our members throughout the world.
IFLA Russian Language Centre at the Russian State Library
In May 2007, the Russian State Library received the status of IFLA Russian Language Centre and became the permanent representative of IFLA Headquarters for the Russian speaking professional library community. The IFLA Russian Language Centre provides the Russian-speaking library professionals with an access to the wide range of international materials in the field of library and information science.
Among the priorities of the Centre are contribution to more effective communication within the relevant language communities and with the IFLA bodies involved, raising awareness about IFLA, its aims, principles and core values; translation of key IFLA documents, papers delivered at the World Library and Information Congress, press-releases and strategic statements.

IFLA’s “Global Vision” project
On July 14, 2017 the first Russian regional self-organized meeting within IFLA’s “Global Vision” project was held to discuss how libraries can tackle the challenges of the future, opportunities and risks.
Visit of Ms. Donna Scheeder to the Russian State Library
On April, 19 the Russian State Library welcomed Ms. Donna Scheeder, current IFLA President, who had arrived to Russia with a professional visit, organized at the initiative of the Margarita Rudomino All-Russia State Library for Foreign Literature. The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) comprises libraries, national library organizations, and information services.
